FUSELAGE - SIDE SKINS

In this section we will be:

Fitting the side skin B/C/D (on LH skin cut out baggage door area. Baggage door area will need to be double walled for the LS3 (V8) engine.)
Position side skin “B,C,D” (MF03-152) in place and mark out rivet patterns on skin as shown on T51-05-INS-1175, drill with #30 drill & Cleco).
Position side skins “E” & “F”, mark out rivet patterns & drill, cleco.
Side skins “E” will need to have a portion removed for the elevators.
Side skins “B,C,D” & “E” can be removed once the above steps are complete.
Once the side skins are removed and the bulkheads U9-U12 are in place.
The turtle deck can go in place. The turtle deck was completed by another builder prior to fitting the side skins, so all additional steps will be done from this point forward Then we can remove skins (deburr holes, bond & rivet skin in place). A stiffener will be added to the bottom of the aft canopy track (MF03-141) to strengthen turtle deck in that area.

Made a template that was 1 3/4 inches square then marked the spacing for the rivet spacing at 1 1/4 by 1 1/4 inches on the template. This allowed me to align and mark the location to drill in the hat section corners where the hat sections overlap. This also provides the start of the rivet pattern once these are matched drilled into the side skins.

12/31/2016 -3hrs marked location in the hat section corners on left side for drilling the rivet holes for the B/C/D side skin.

2 hrs - Side skin layout

⁃ layout rivet pattern on B/C/D side skin, using the single sheet .032

2/4/2017 - 2hrs. cut strips to go over the upper and bottom longerons from bulkhead 2 to 4.

Made the same over lays for the right side to go over the top and bottom longerons from bulkhead 2 to 4.

2/11/2017 - 6hrs. Bent strips and cut to fit on left and right side top and bottom.

2/25 & 2/26/2017. - 8hrs

Cut u-channels for interior skins.

Deburr and shape.

3/4/2017 - 5 hrs finish the u-channels, shaped and marked to go in the interior. Now tomorrow I can glue them in place.

5/272017 - 5hrs glueing the u-channels on the right side

7/1/2017 - worked on side skins

2 hrs - Matched drilled the b/c/d side skin with the inner side skins and hat sections.

8/5/2017 - 6hrs

⁃ finished match drilling the left side skin with the interior skins.

⁃ refitted the right side skin at bulk heads 3 at the bottom for a better fit.

8/5/2017 - 6hrs

⁃ finished match drilling the left side skin with the interior skins.

⁃ Still need to work on the front baggage door to fit better

8/12/2017 5hrs

⁃ worked more on the latches fitting

⁃ Cutout sections of the upper baggage door support to allow the latches to close.

8/13/2017 5.5 hrs

⁃ Started attaching the right rear side skin"E". Put in place the center stringer hat channels.

⁃ Drilled the 4 corners at each section and match drilled the side skin. Laid out the river pattern and started drilling the side skin in place.

8/20/217. 4hrs

⁃ drilled remaining rivet holes in right side E skin.

⁃ Matched drilled top of skin with the turtle deck.

8/20/2017 - Fitted Fiberglass Belly into position and matched drilled along bottom longerons section with skin.
