FORWARD BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT
Laying out the forward baggage compartment door required spending time thinking about how I really wanted the door to work. The plans show using screw fasteners, while others have used a hinge on the door. Some I looked at by other builders had the hinge on the forward vertical edge of the door, the problem here is there is a radius to the side skin in this area and the hinge will not work on the forward edge in my case. Some have put the hinge on top of the door. This will work but would require holding the door up when putting things in or out, or attaching braces to lock it in place when raised. I’m looking to put the hinge at the bottom of the door where it would swing down when opening and wouldn’t require holding the door open when accessing the baggage area. There are pros and cons to each design. A couple of advantages to this method is 1. Don’t have to hold the door when accessing the area, 2. It will be very obvious the door needs to be secured when doing a walk around.

11/11 - marked location for baggage door and wall doublers. Bob Frederick's came by to give some advice and a hand. Greatly appreciated.
11/12 - forward baggage door. Layout and mount wall doublers to inner left baggage door skin. Laid out rivet lines and drilled to #40 for door wall doublers.

⁃ Made top roof panel for forward baggage area.
⁃ Made L bracket for panel to attach on the aft side.
11/26/2016 - laid out location for forward baggage area doubler on right side. Decided to install the same wall doublers on the right side that was used on the left side for the door. This way I get the same shape as the left. 8 hours.
11/26/2016 marked location and matched drilled wall doublers and right side inner wall
11/26/2016 - deburr, scotch brite pieces and primed.
8/6/2017 - 6hrs
⁃ Made adjustments for the forward baggage door so the hinge would fit. Added a support around the baggage door between the outside skin and door support.
2 hrs. Cut the holes for the Hartwell latches in the baggage door
10/7/2017 - 4 hrs.
worked on the front baggage door. Attached the door supports to stiffen the door.
10/8/2017 - 5 hrs.
Didn’t like how the door was laying along the top edge so I built a new one using the same supports.
